On the cusp


Sometime in the next few days, or weeks if lawyers get involved, I will find out whether my 19 year old severely autistic son will be moving into weekday adult social care, or continue to live at home for as long as I can cope with him. The Shaykh (that’s his Internet pseudonym) is 19 years old, and in his final year at a special school for children with autism.  There is one issue, and one issue alone, on which the final decision regarding my son’s future care now rests: money.

Realignment


I’m currently in the process of realigning my creative writing to encompass a broader literary remit than implied by Muslim steampunk, although the concept of a transhistorical and transcultural steampunk will inform the new project. I have written a great deal during  the least two years, but my imagination has persistently refused to conform the disciplines of genre or linear narrative.

I also want to realign this blog with the Occupy Movement, which is the only contemporary political movement that resonates with my own outlook. I’m particularly drawn to the way it has embraced the marginalised and vulnerable. In my view, any truly civilized society must be framed around the needs of such people, rather than the fears and prejudices of the affluent middle class right.

An all new blog should be the outcome of these changes, insha Allah.
